Freshly brewed vanilla iced coffee

Coffee is a drink brewed with two ingredients: roasted coffee beans and water.

However, as time passed, many variations were made to the original coffee roast, one of which being the Vanilla Iced Coffee.

Short Answer: Vanilla iced coffee is a type of cold coffee with an average caffeine content of around 200mg. The price range is between $2-$4 and is easily available at any café.

Vanilla iced coffee is one of the most commonly consumed drinks in different countries around the globe. And the name suggests it is served typically on ice instead of hot brew.

History and Ingredients

Iced coffee has a history that can be traced to the 1800s. Then, they were launched publicly in several cafés and restaurants in the early 1900s.

Later on, baristas, cafés, and restaurants started experimenting with the original iced coffee and came up with vanilla iced coffee.

Its key ingredients are:

  • Cold coffee brew
  • Vanilla extract/syrup
  • Milk
  • Ice
  • Sugar (optional)

While the coffee can be bought in any local coffee shop, it’s still easy enough to make at home. Here’s how you do it:

Preparation time: 5-6 minutes

Step 1: Brew a fresh cup of cold coffee.

Step 2: Pour the brew into a glass filled with ice (as desired).

Step 3: Add Milk and vanilla extract/syrup.

And voila! You’re done.

Is Vanilla Iced Coffee Bad For You?

Vanilla Iced Coffee isn’t necessarily bad for you, but the amount of caffeine you put in your body might be.

The FDA limits our daily caffeine intake to 400mg a day, and for people who are sensitive to caffeine, that number is probably much lower.

When a person overconsumes coffee, they may experience side effects like:

  • Jitters
  • Anxiety
  • Dizziness
  • Dehydration

It’s also recommended that coffee should be limited for the following:

  • Pregnant women- can cause slow fetal growth or even abortions.
  • People with heart conditions- can lead to increased heart rate causing stroke.
  • Breastfeeding mothers- can dehydrate the body.
  • Insomniacs- coffee contains high levels of caffeine which can disturb your usual sleep patterns if consumed in large amounts.
  • People with severe headaches– this is caused when too much coffee dehydrates your body
  • People with stomach pains- caused by indigestion and diarrhea

One of the most serious side effects of coffee that I would like to highlight is coffee addiction. Many people do not realize how pressing this matter really is.

All kinds of coffee, including vanilla iced coffee, contain high amounts of caffeine.

Caffeine also stops your brain from telling the body it is tired, which means your body can quickly get overworked, causing weakness, fatigue, fevers, higher heart rates, and much more.

If you or anyone around you suffers from serious caffeine addiction, reach out for help as soon as possible. Contact the Caffeine Addiction And Abuse – Addiction Center for more information.
