Breville Bambino Plus (This Is It)

Breville Bambino Plus (This Is It)

When you think of an espresso machine, you probably think of the large, powerful, and loud machines found in coffee shops. However, unlike most machines, the Bambino Plus is anything but bulky.

The Bambino Plus is also much quieter than larger Breville espresso machines. Its quieter design appeals to those who get up earlier than the rest of the family. As a result, you can make your coffee without disturbing anyone else.

Breville designers incorporated all of their favorite components from some of their larger espresso machines into the design of a compact device.

The Bambino Plus has a sleek design and appears to be a high-end espresso machine. The machine has a professional feel to it, from the metal steam wand to the high-quality portafilter, but it’s compact and won’t take over your kitchen.

Depending on where you live, this Breville coffee maker is available in a variety of colors. In the United States, you can choose from eight different colors, whereas in the UK and Australia, you only have three.

Is Bambino A Good Coffee Machine?

Yes! The Breville Bambino Plus is intended for those who take their coffee seriously.

The coffee machine comes with four filter baskets for different types of coffee grounds, a tool called the Razor that helps you expertly level off your coffee grounds so that you can make the smoothest espresso possible, cleaning tools, a milk jug, a removable 54 mm portafilter into which you clip the coffee basket before inserting it into the machine, and even a water filter to help improve the taste of your coffee.

Making good espresso is dependent on several factors, one of which is ensuring that the coffee grounds are well compacted. A metal tamper is provided to assist you in this, and unlike many other machines, it is not attached to the machine itself, making it much easier to apply even force to the grounds. Many espresso machines include a plastic tamper, so it’s nice to see a more robust metal tamper here.

The Bambino Plus heats up in three seconds, and you can then select a one-cup or two-cup brew by pressing the appropriate button. With this coffee maker, milk frothing is also made simple: simply choose from three different milk temperatures as well as three different milk textures. The metal steam arm is a bonus, as most espresso machines come with plastic steam wands.

If you prefer complete control over the coffee-making process, the Bambino Plus allows you to manually texturize milk. If you’re content to let the machine do its thing, the included metal milk jug sits on a small sensor button that measures the milk’s temperature. When the milk reaches the temperature you’ve set, the steam wand will turn off, and once you’ve lifted the wand out of the jug and returned it to its resting position, the machine will automatically purge it by pumping water through it.

Now let’s look at the specifications that Bambino plus offers you.

The automatic purge system on the Breville Bambino Plus. The purge system ensures that if you make more than one cup of coffee at a time, each cup is at the perfect temperature. It will essentially reset the heating system so that the next cup of coffee is extracted at the same temperature as the previous one and not at a higher one.

Does The Breville Bambino Plus Have A Grinder?

Barista making coffee with the machine
Breville doesn’t come with a grinder, this is the only downside with this machine

This Breville product does not include a grinder.

This may not be an important factor for some, but having a machine that can grind the beans for you is essential for many people looking to develop their barista skills.

You can use pre-ground coffee grounds in this machine for your benefit. Many users do just that. However, if you want a stronger and more authentic espresso and coffee, you’ll need to invest in a coffee grinder and unground coffee beans.

If you want a good grinder, I recommend getting a burr grinder. Burr grinders, according to experts, help to preserve the flavor of the coffee bean while achieving a consistent grind. Look for a model that grinds directly into your portafilter basket for convenience.

Using freshly ground beans and grinding them yourself will also give you a more hands-on experience when making this beverage.

How To Descale The Breville Bambino Plus?

When the machine needs to be descaled, it’ll alternately flash the one-shot, steam, and two-shot buttons. This could occur every 60 to 90 days. Just follow these steps to descale your machine:

  • Fill the tank with water up to the descale line and add the descaler. Stir until completely dissolved.
  • Hold down the one-shot and steam buttons until the machine turns off.
  • Place the steam wand inside a large bowl on the drip tray.
  • To enter the descaling mode, press and hold the one-shot and steam buttons for 5 seconds at the same time. Both buttons should be solidly illuminated.
  • To begin descaling, press the one-shot or steam button. For about 5 minutes, the machine will purge water intermittently. If you interrupt the process, you’ll have to restart it.
  • When the machine is done, empty the water tank and refill it with fresh water. Press the one-shot or steam button again to start the rinse cycle. For a few minutes longer, the machine will purge water.
  • When all of the lights illuminate, the machine will indicate that it’s finished. Refill the water tank and empty the drip tray of water.

How Do You Froth Milk In Bambino Plus?

Frothing milk on a coffee machine
Milk frothing is a plus with coffee machines

The Breville Bambino Plus’s magic is the automatic milk frothing. Simply place the pitcher on the tray with the milk wand inside, press the buttons for the desired preset, and let the machine do the rest.

The temperature control on the Bambino Plus is the real gem, thanks to sensors in the drip tray that work with some tweaks to the steam wand itself. The Bambino Plus has two additional buttons for adjusting milk temperature (50, 70, or 90 degrees Celsius) and steamed milk texture.

This functionality is powered by some impressive technology. To begin, the Bambino Plus has a larger steam wand. Second, the Bambino Plus wand has four holes as opposed to the Bambino’s single hole. This means that the Bambino Plus can steam milk in approximately 30 seconds, which is 20 seconds faster than the Bambino.

Simply fill your milk jug, select a temperature and texture, and press a button: the Bambino Plus will do the rest. There’s no need to worry about the jug’s angle or how far to lower the nozzle.

While the microfoam will not be as smooth as you can achieve with a lot of practice and a hands-on machine, this machine will get the job done. It’s also not too shabby! So, if you don’t mind putting in extra effort or being picky about your foam, the Bambino Plus’s solid B+ work should suffice.
