If you like an extra layer of flavor, almond milk definitely goes well on your coffee.

The semi-strong nutty flavor is something that captured my taste which is also the main reason why I usually go for sweetened almond milk for a smoother taste.

So, assuming you’re not allergic to nuts, adding some almond milk into your cup of coffee is definitely worth doing!

The thing is, almond milk might curdle in coffee due to temperature and acidity. To avoid this, do not pour cold almond milk into a very hot cup of coffee.

Moreover, the curdling reaction will differ based on the type of coffee roasts and brands.

So, I suggest trying different brands to avoid such a reaction on your coffee.

I have tried the following brands and so far I didn’t notice any curdling:

Can I Have Coffee With Almond Milk on Keto?

It really depends on the type of almond milk that you will be using and the other food that you’ll be eating and drinking throughout the day.

Personally, I’d go for unsweetened almond milk because it only contains 1.4 grams of carbs per 240 ml cup, 37 % of the DV for calcium, and 46% of the DV for Vitamin E, which are all fine if you’re on a keto diet.

I think sweetened almond milk won’t fit into this regimen because of the sugar content which is roughly 15 grams and 16 grams of carbs.

Moreover, there are other keto milk options that you may consider if almond milk on coffee isn’t your thing, and these include:

  • soy milk (4 grams carbs)
  • hemp milk (o grams carbs)
  • pea milk (0 grams carbs)
  • coconut milk in a carton (1 gram carbs)

So far so good, the best one for me is coconut milk. I love the neutral taste and the coconut flavor!

Is Coffee With Almond Milk Healthy?

Almond milk with coffee is healthy but you should be aware of its downsides as it curdles when mixed in a cup.

There are various health benefits that you can gain from almond milk itself and coffee too.

Almond milk has lesser calories compared to dairy milk. Also, it has low sodium content, no calories, or saturated fats.

And that makes it a suitable milk option for health-conscious people and those with lactose intolerant!

Here are the other benefits of almond milk:

  • a good source of magnesium
  • high in bone-building calcium
  • a good source of antioxidants
  • lowers the risk of cognitive disease

Moreover, you should be informed of its downsides as some almond milk variations contain a whopping amount of sugar.

Sugary drinks can easily lead to obesity and cardiovascular diseases.

So, you better control how much almond milk you’ll pour into your coffee cup.

Why Does Almond Milk Go Weird in Coffee?

Acidity and temperature are the culprits on why your almond milk could go weird in coffee.

Coffee acts as the coagulant that causes your milk to split and curdle in a cup.

The protein in almond milk coagulates when in contact with the acids in coffee. This is due to the difference in temperature between hot coffee and cold almond milk.

But this sort of chemical reaction also happens on some non-dairy and plant-based milk too.

The good thing is, if you order your flat white or almond milk coffee in proper coffee shops, this kind of reaction can be ruled out due to the use of grade milk, high concentration of almond, and lower acidity levels due to altering calcium levels.

Here’s I think a solution that can stop the curdling reaction:

  • Let the coffee cool a little before pouring the almond milk.
  • Use dark roast and coffee beans grown in lower altitudes.
  • Use MILKLAB almond milk.
  • Mix a little coffee to your almond milk before pouring all of it to your cup to even the temperature and stop the milk from splitting.

What’s Better Oat or Almond Milk?

That really depends on your preference!

Rest assured, these two are amongst the most popular milk alternatives on the market.

Personally, I can’t really choose between these two because they are both healthy milk alternatives that go well on your cup of coffee.

However, for the sake of comparison, let’s look at their typical nutrition facts and see what we can gather.

Calorie-wise, almond milk is probably a better option because it has fewer calories than oat milk.

Even though oat milk contains higher calories, that is not an issue based on the recommended calorie intake per day which is 2000 for women and 2500 for men.

So far so good, both almond milk and oat milk are ideal for your coffee. I suggest trying both of these milk alternatives to see which one really is your thing.

What is the Healthiest Milk to Put in Coffee?

Aside from almond milk, here are other healthy milk options that you can put in your cuppa:

  • soy milk
  • cashew milk
  • coconut milk
  • rice milk

Amongst the list, I suggest you go for rice milk if you have a nut allergy or battling with lactose intolerant issues.

Rice milk on coffee has a very neutral taste but the thin and watery texture may not give you that creamy consistency which most people prefer on their beverage.

Almond milk coffee is definitely something that you should consider ordering during your next visit to your favorite coffee shop.

We might have the curdling issue but that can be solved easily using a few tricks such as letting your coffee cool down to even out the temperature with your almond milk.

Almond milk on coffee tastes delicious but be aware that the nutty flavor may taste bitter. I suggest trying both the sweetened and unsweetened versions to see which one is palatable for you.

Almond milk itself is very healthy which is another reason why you should at least consider it as one of your coffee additives.
