Is AeroPress Coffee Less Acidic Than Regular Coffee?

AeroPress coffee is less acidic than coffee made using any brewing method. That is because of the filter used, its full immersion brewing, and the grind size.

If you have drunk a French press coffee before, you might have noticed the acidity that comes through while sipping that coffee. But when you sip on AeroPress coffee, it’s not as acidic.

coffee is being plunged out from the AeroPress

Usually, acidity is a sign of under-extracted coffee or a lighter roasted coffee. But here we use the medium to dark roast coffee grounds. Also, the finer coffee grounds in the AeroPress get fully submerged in the water. This allows every soluble coffee compound gets extracted.

But this full immersion is only for a few seconds. This also helps for coffee grounds not to be acidic. One more thing to keep in mind here is that it uses a paper filter.

Filtered coffee is always without unwanted coffee compounds like grits and coffee oils that are acidic and bitter.

The metal filter inside the French press is porous which allows almost every coffee compound to shine through in the final brew. But AeroPress paper filter is a fine knit filter that removes all the bitterness and gives it a mellow taste. AeroPress coffee is clean and strong without excessive bitterness and acidity.

Is AeroPress Coffee Any Good?

AeroPress coffee is very flavorful and people tend to enjoy it. But other benefits are its aesthetically pleasing, portable, user-friendly, and great value for money.

Though the mechanism is quite similar to the French press, people enjoy Aeropress coffee a lot more. Unlike the French press, it doesn’t contain any grits and is filtered properly to eliminate harmful coffee oils.

Plus, it still brews a strong cuppa without wasting any time. In less than a minute your brew is ready to be plunged out. But let’s break it down a bit.

Aesthetically Pleasing

The whole concept of developing Aeropress is not to replace already existing coffee makers like Chemex or the French Press. Instead, it is made to be a convenient and faster way to brew coffee without any hassle.

It’s a lightweight and practical coffee brewing device that can fit in your kitchen cabinet as well as your bag pack. Just take it out and enjoy a quick fresh cup of chockers.

Portable

This is hands down the best portable coffee maker out there. It’s a compact, lightweight, durable, manual coffee brewing machine that top-notch.

Just take it with you for trips like camping and hiking, and enjoy your coffee on the go without any worries. If you’re interested in portable coffee makers, I have an entire article dedicated to the best ones. Check it out.

User Friendly

Don’t worry if you are new to coffee brewing and are not as skillful as the coffee place baristas. This machine will work out for you just fine. There are no tangible parts that might confuse you. Just add the grounds, water, stir, and push. That’s about it.

However, if you are already on an intermediate level for brewing coffee, this is a good place for experimenting and trying out new recipes.

Great Value For Money

It s a great deal for the amount you pay. The basic French press comes in that range but it is not as portable, sturdy, or lightweight. Aeropress lets you brew coffee with a filter so that no unhealthy elements get into your cup.

a dismantled Aeropress with a pot of coffee grounds.

But having said that, here are some things which I would like to point out which can stop you from buying it.

Don’t Buy It If…

You Require Large Quantity Brewing

If you’re on the lookout for a coffee machine that can brew 2 to 3 coffees at one time, then this is not for you. Because you cannot brew a large batch. It can only brew one coffee at a time.

It does brew coffee in under 10 seconds, so you’ll need to repeat the process each time. And if you don’t have any problems then buy it.

A Coffee Brewer From Which You Drink As Well

If you’re looking for a coffee machine that doesn’t require an external mug to hold in the brew, then don’t buy it. You need to carry a sturdy mug for the brew to drip in.

Lighter Roast Coffee Doesn’t Extract Well

Since the water is in contact with the coffee grounds only for a short period of time, light roast grounds do not produce strong flavors. So, if you enjoy the lighter roast coffee grounds, then this isn’t for you.

My Final Verdict

Aeropress is a super cool coffee machine that does not require tons of investments to buy. Plus, it’s an easy-to-use device that can be carried anywhere. You can make your brew on a trip or even in your car. The possibilities are endless.

And even if you’re new to this whole coffee brewing thing, it doesn’t require many skills to master the art of brewing coffee when using Aeropress. It brews a clean cup of coffee yet it’s as strong an espresso. It is also less acidic. But if you want to brew a larger batch you can opt for something else.
